The Legendary 10lbs. of Gold– FOR AUCTION

If you ever wanted to old a true piece of professional wrestling history, you may be in luck as it looks like the true ultimate prize is going to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.

The National Wrestling Alliance
World championship belt, which had been in Ric Flair’s possession since Jim Crockett Promotions introduced the “big gold belt” in the mid-1980s, will be auctioned off by Highspots via Ebay this Monday. This is the belt that was originally worn by Jack Brisco, Dusty Rhodes and Harley Race, among others, which was chronicled in the excellent “Ten Pounds of Gold” book that was released this past summer.

The decision to auction off the belt is apparently the latest maneuver in an ongoing issue between Highspots and Flair over money owed going back many months. The word that has been making the rounds, as previously noted ont he site, is that Highspots loaned Flair a sum that has yet to be paid back. Sources indicate that Flair’s side claimed the debt was paid off via appearances Flair made for Highspots.

Sources indicate another part of the ongoing issues may be over Highspots’ decision to release DVDs featuring Flair from last August’s NWA Legends convention (a Flair/Harley Race Q&A Session and the 2009 Hall of Heroes induction ceremony where Flair inducted Blackjack Mulligan) as Flair’s side has apparently claimed Highspots didn’t have the rights to release the DVDs. Highspots previously worked with Flair on several shoot interview DVD releases and booked him for a number of appearances on independent events in the last year.

The auction for the belt (unless other forces intervene) will begin on Monday. For more information, email Highspots@aol.com.

The Legendary 10lbs of Gold that was worn around the waist of Ric Flair. This title holds a lot of history between its leather and gold. And the Dome Globe has travel to more places in the world than most of us ever will. The story of the championship was recently told by Dick Bourne and Dave Millican. Their book is available and you can get your copy here!

It should also be noted that if you do not have the $75,000 to bid on this piece of history, you can purchase and an adult replica belt. Check out the belt at NWA Midwest

NWA Lucha Chicago: Presents Blue Demon Jr. vs. The Sheik

Using a spike to draw the blood of the infidels The Sheik has slowly made a name for himself in Florida as no nonsense, blood thirsty, competitor who will stop at nothing to achieve glory and honor for his countrymen. And with the Wizard, Joey Eastman by his side, the Sheik has traveled as far west as Southern California to wrestle for the NWA Showcase. And although Fusion Pro Wrestling is where he is a Heavyweight Champion, the Sheik has traveled to Charlotte and Chicago to purge the non-believers. And it will be in Chicago, where the mad-man finally has an opportunity to claim the Legendary 10lbs of Gold. As the Sheik has already laid to waste to former WWE Superstar 2 Cold Scorpio and Florida Indy Wrestling Sensation Steve Madison, his next target is the Worlds Heavyweight Champion. And you better believe the Sheik has one more spike ready to free the blood of Blue Demon Jr.

Blue Demon Jr. has already defeated some of the most prominent names of the NWA. Adam Pearce, Joey Ryan, former NWA Heritage Champion Ryan Taylor, Mexican Wrestling sensation El Dandy, current NWA Heritage Champion Oliver John, and former WWE Superstar Super Crazy. Demon has 2 more matches in Texas before he even gets to Chicago. NWA Chicago brings you this match up on October 24th, 2009.

NOW Magazine // Daily // Lucha Libre

In conjunction with the cellebration of Mexico and its Heritage, the Worlds Heavyweight Champion, Blue Demon Jr. speaks to NOW Magazine. He talks about the importance of his mask and how he feels like a real life super-hero. Nothing earth shatter, but it offers interesting details on The NWA Champion. There still has been no confirmation from the NWA Board of Directors whether the 10lbs. of Gold will be defended in Toronto.

NWA Worlds Champion in Ring of Honor?

At “Take No Prisoners” the NWA Worlds Title will be seen again by a live Ring Of Honor audience.

“Once more the ROH and NWA World Champions will share the ring, but this time in an international tag team contest. Just signed for “Take No Prisoners” on April 4th is the team of ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness and frequent partner, “The Most Money Making Man” Claudio Castagnoli versus “Shooter” Brent Albright and NWA World Champion Blue Demon, Jr. Albright has plenty of history with McGuinness and Castagnoli, as it could be argued that Castagnoli cost Brent the ROH Title. Blue Demon, Jr. wanted to face the best that ROH had to offer; and it doesn’t get any better than the ROH World Champion.”

As of the last tapings of the NWA Showcase, a partnership was seemingly developed between Blue Demon Jr. and Brent Albright. There mutual despise of Adam Pearce has brougth them closer together in Ring of Honor. And as Albright works for both the NWA and ROH, he has become the ambassador of good will to the Blue Demon Jr.

NWA Pro’s EWF Presents: Full Throttle

Adam Pearce once said, “If you devalue this, the NWA Heritage Championship, you take a step backwards…” Ryan Taylor prepares to take a step forward this weekend against the Worlds Heavyweight Champion Blue Demon Jr. At 22 years of age could Ryan Taylor shock the world? Taylor is the man responsible for taking the NWA Heritage Title off of TJ Perkins and still holds the EWF American Championship. Taylor was voted EWF Wrestler of the Year of 2008 along with being involved in the Match Of The Year. Can Ryan Taylor, parlay his 2008 into a Worlds Championship Victory? We’ll find out this Saturday Demon vs. Taylor.

Also on the card, EWF Heavyweight Champion Black Metal and the A-List will take on Cyanide, Vintage Dragon, and Vizzion.

NWA Week in Review for Feb. 27th 2009

The month of February comes to an end and the National Wrestling Alliance Marches on.

The month of February was a very successful one our Worlds Heavyweight Champion, Blue Demon Jr. The Demon defended his title successfully in a match against El Dandy in Mexico. Retained his title by disqualification against Oliver John in Pro Wrestling Revolution’s latest event in California, and continued his feud with the Border Patrol on the NWA Showcase in a match against Derrick Sanders. Blue Demon Jr. has been on a role and it has just been announced that Blue Demon Jr. has been invited to the Ring of Honor super-show in Houston during Wrestlemania Weekend.
In recent weeks NWA Southwest and NWA Midwest were adding new associates left and right. THe NWA Midwest strived to further its influence by partnering with Pro Wrestling Fusion. THe gist of the the partnership is talent exchange and the agreement to start co-promoting events across the US, starting in Florida. The release mentions “Former Pro Wrestling Fusion Heavyweight Champion – The Sheik will be debuting in South Dakota and all over the Midwest as soon as March 1 and current Fusion Heavyweight Champion – Steve Madison will be accompanying The Sheik to the NWA Showcase television taping from Hollywood in California on March 7 & 8. The Sheik will also be appearing in NWA Midwest on April 24th in Waukesha, WI, and on April 25th in Madison, WI for NWA Midwest promoter Frank DeFalco of NWA Brew City.” This isn’t the first time that Ed Chuman and the NWA Midwest attempted to get a partnership with a Floridian Wrestling Promotion. April of last year, IWZ was suppose to “co-promote events” with the NWA. I don’t know what became of IWZ, their website is still intact, but it doesn’t look very updated. I think this union between PWF and the NWA will be beneficial to all parties involved.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. The World Famous ECW Arena, now going by the name The ARENA, was the host to the travesty of 1994. When Shane Douglas won the Worlds Championship, read its eulogy and proceeded to toss the title in the center of the ring. 15 years to the date, Shane Douglas is scheduled to debut for NWA On-Fire and the NWA will be returning to ECW arena.
NWA Charlotte will be running is third show. This show is to feature the National Heavyweight Champion Phil Shatter defending his title against former AWA World Champion Larry Zbysko.
And speaking about star power, Chris Masters makes his return to the NWA. Masters was instrumental in helping Brandon Gatson regain his 3rd EWF Heavyweight Championship. Gatson defeated Black Metal with a super-kick.
We’d also like to congratulate long time SoCal Wrestler Red Tornado James Morgan who bested the likes of Joey Ryan, Ryan Taylor, Aaron Aguilera, and Scott Lost to become the 1st ever M1Wrestling Champion.

NWA Week in Review for Feb. 14th

Like cupids arrow we are being shot through the heart of this weeks NWA news. This is the week in review for February 14th, 2009.

The Worlds Heavyweight Title is scheduled to be defended at the El Rancho Restaurant in Tepotzotlan, MX. This is the second of many efforts to bring affordable wrestling action to the fans of Mexico. It is well known that Mexico is suffering from the harsh economic conditions and this is NWA Mexico’s effort in trying to make their style of Lucha Libre more accessible to the fine people of Mexico. Blue Demon Jr. will take on rival El Dandy. When asked about the qualifications of El Dandy in receiving a title show, legendary 2nd generation wrestler Bret Hart had this to say, “Who are you, to doubt El Dandy!” Sorry folks, that joke will never get old for me.

Speaking of the champ, Blue Demon Jr.’s appearance on the Showcase 09 took place yesterday on ColoursTV. If you’ve been keeping up with this blog, you’d know that the match was made available earlier this week on NWAWrestling.com. Demon defends against Border Patrol member Derrick Sanders. The card also features the Showcase debut of Cade and Murdock, Joey Ryan, Tristan Gallo, and Adam Pearce bullies poor David Marquez.

Controversy, confusion, and perhaps a little hard feelings were the sentiment in Music City this week. Apparently NWA Main Event and associate NWA Top Rope couldn’t even agree to disagree as Main Event’s promoter, Mike Porter claimed that only his television taping in Nashville was the only sanctioned NWA event last week. However, Top Rope promoter Mike Sircy, who recently created NWA Cyberslam, which is a union of the NWA Top Rope Promotion with Tennessee Indy promotions USWO and ATL begs to differ. “This taping is a NWA Top Rope Production. The internet show will be called NWA Cyberslam. So I would have to say this portion of the night would be a sanctioned NWA Show,” claimed a representative from Top Rope. That night of action did see the crowning of a new Cyberslam Champion in Kliff Hanger who defeated JD Fluffy, Raul Loco, and LT Falk in a tournament to gain the crown. Porter’s group ran a television taping for its Weekly action on Nashville’s ION Network.

Brandon K has to be at least nominated for the Worst Tag Team Partner Award. Brandon K and Sterling James Keenan became the North American Tag Team Champions by defeating the Wrong Crowd last year. Aside from a handful of defenses K and Keenan hadn’t really had that much competition. Brandon K had focused his energies on former National Champion Crusher Hansen. While Champion, Hansen evaded K for months. Finally being pinned in a match against Brandon that featured 4 other competitors. Brandon K thought he won the National Title before an executive decision gave the title back to Hansen. Hansen was later defeated by NWA Anarchy’s Phil Shatter. Ok back to why K is a terrible partner, he puts up his partners half of the tag team title against Hansen’s rematch against Shatter. If Hansen wins, he keeps his shot at the National Title and becomes Brandon K’s new partner. If K wins, SJK keeps his spot in the tag team and K gets a show at Shatter. In the infamous words of some fan at the Championship Wrestling from Hollywood tapings “[Brandon K] you’re a bum!” This all goes down today at the Valentine’s Day Massacre for NWA East.

Earlier in the year we reported that TJ Perkins lost a loser leaves town match in the NWA Pro associate EWF. When it seems that Perkins isn’t just leaving the town, that he’s actually leaving the state. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla broke the news about Perkins last match as a SoCal Resident against long time foil B-Boy at the PWG’s Express Written Consent takes place Saturday, February 21. Perkins has been a foundation of the wrestling scene in So-Cal not only being a start attraction, but also trainer to many of the new talents. Perkins will be missed. There is speculation that TJ Perkins will be moving to Florida. This could be great news for our NWA fans on the East Coast. If you get a chance to catch a Perkins match, do it.

Lastly this week I got some clarification from Mr. Bill Behrens, about the NWA House Shows that were ran at the end of the year. “The three events were to be co-promoted with the [venues],” said NWA Promoter Bill Behrens. To my knowledge these were the first events that were not promoted in conjunction with the NWA Pro Wrestling promotion. The first Ohio show was headlined by Trevor Murdock vs. Pepper Parks. Murdock had already worked some dates with NWA Pro/NWA Southwest as a challenger to Brent Albright’s Worlds Championship. Parks continues to work for the NWA Empire promotion with working some dates with the NWA Showcase television show and is a former National Heavyweight Champion. The second big event in Ohio was headlined by Al Snow vs. Pepper Parks. The third event which was to take place in Michigan was canceled because of low ticket sales. That event was to see Mike Quackenbush defend his Junior Heavyweight title against Shannon Moore and the Skull Krushers were to defend their belts against the Phoenix Twins. Unfortunately these shows were not taped. However Behrens assured me that these won’t be the last efforts of running these house shows in larger venues.
