NWA to reclaim its titles from CMLL.

As reported by The Cubsfan, Blue Demon Jr. (as NWA rep) held a press conference showing off new belts (same look, but they don’t have 40 years of use on them), declaring CMLL is officially prohibited from using their versions of these NWA championships, declaring these championships vacant and explaining they’ve sent letters to the commission to enforce these decisions. Demon then posed with the belts will people who clearly respect title belts, Los Perros del Mal. (Well, X-Fly had his title back anyway.) Of note, they had new light heavyweight and middleweight titles, but not a welterweight one, so maybe Mephisto’s in the clear. Demon says they’ll be holding tournaments for the titles, and CMLL and AAA are invited to send wrestlers.  Some people speculate that Perros Del Mal have entered into an agreement with NWA Mexico.  No official announcement has been made as of yet.

NWA Mexico show is fake and not official!

Credit to Superluchas and a nod to BigKhrisdogg

It was brought to my attention by Gabe Ramirez promoter of Pro Wrestling Revolution that this show is in his words “is fake and not official. Blue Demon Jr. is not booked for this show nor is it an NWA Mexico event.” The show even fooled Superluchas so I don’t feel so bad about posting it here.

NWA Mexico: Blue Demon Jr. takes on two of his Rivals

Credit: Superluchas

Blue Demon Jr. is a wanted man. Two of his biggest American rivals are seemingly teaming up to go after the holder of the legendary 10lbs. of Gold. Coming to Mexico. Former NWA World Champion, “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce and “Boarder Patrol” Oliver John are making the trek to Park Morelos de Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. This will be the first time NWA Matches will be sanctioned in Mexico since February. The only match announced for this show is Blue Demon Jr. and Incongnito, against the two American Challengers on Friday, November 27th. This will be Pearce’s first match in Mexico since he lost the title to Blue Demon Jr. and Oliver Johns first trip south of the border.

NWA Week in Review for Feb. 14th

Like cupids arrow we are being shot through the heart of this weeks NWA news. This is the week in review for February 14th, 2009.

The Worlds Heavyweight Title is scheduled to be defended at the El Rancho Restaurant in Tepotzotlan, MX. This is the second of many efforts to bring affordable wrestling action to the fans of Mexico. It is well known that Mexico is suffering from the harsh economic conditions and this is NWA Mexico’s effort in trying to make their style of Lucha Libre more accessible to the fine people of Mexico. Blue Demon Jr. will take on rival El Dandy. When asked about the qualifications of El Dandy in receiving a title show, legendary 2nd generation wrestler Bret Hart had this to say, “Who are you, to doubt El Dandy!” Sorry folks, that joke will never get old for me.

Speaking of the champ, Blue Demon Jr.’s appearance on the Showcase 09 took place yesterday on ColoursTV. If you’ve been keeping up with this blog, you’d know that the match was made available earlier this week on NWAWrestling.com. Demon defends against Border Patrol member Derrick Sanders. The card also features the Showcase debut of Cade and Murdock, Joey Ryan, Tristan Gallo, and Adam Pearce bullies poor David Marquez.

Controversy, confusion, and perhaps a little hard feelings were the sentiment in Music City this week. Apparently NWA Main Event and associate NWA Top Rope couldn’t even agree to disagree as Main Event’s promoter, Mike Porter claimed that only his television taping in Nashville was the only sanctioned NWA event last week. However, Top Rope promoter Mike Sircy, who recently created NWA Cyberslam, which is a union of the NWA Top Rope Promotion with Tennessee Indy promotions USWO and ATL begs to differ. “This taping is a NWA Top Rope Production. The internet show will be called NWA Cyberslam. So I would have to say this portion of the night would be a sanctioned NWA Show,” claimed a representative from Top Rope. That night of action did see the crowning of a new Cyberslam Champion in Kliff Hanger who defeated JD Fluffy, Raul Loco, and LT Falk in a tournament to gain the crown. Porter’s group ran a television taping for its Weekly action on Nashville’s ION Network.

Brandon K has to be at least nominated for the Worst Tag Team Partner Award. Brandon K and Sterling James Keenan became the North American Tag Team Champions by defeating the Wrong Crowd last year. Aside from a handful of defenses K and Keenan hadn’t really had that much competition. Brandon K had focused his energies on former National Champion Crusher Hansen. While Champion, Hansen evaded K for months. Finally being pinned in a match against Brandon that featured 4 other competitors. Brandon K thought he won the National Title before an executive decision gave the title back to Hansen. Hansen was later defeated by NWA Anarchy’s Phil Shatter. Ok back to why K is a terrible partner, he puts up his partners half of the tag team title against Hansen’s rematch against Shatter. If Hansen wins, he keeps his shot at the National Title and becomes Brandon K’s new partner. If K wins, SJK keeps his spot in the tag team and K gets a show at Shatter. In the infamous words of some fan at the Championship Wrestling from Hollywood tapings “[Brandon K] you’re a bum!” This all goes down today at the Valentine’s Day Massacre for NWA East.

Earlier in the year we reported that TJ Perkins lost a loser leaves town match in the NWA Pro associate EWF. When it seems that Perkins isn’t just leaving the town, that he’s actually leaving the state. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla broke the news about Perkins last match as a SoCal Resident against long time foil B-Boy at the PWG’s Express Written Consent takes place Saturday, February 21. Perkins has been a foundation of the wrestling scene in So-Cal not only being a start attraction, but also trainer to many of the new talents. Perkins will be missed. There is speculation that TJ Perkins will be moving to Florida. This could be great news for our NWA fans on the East Coast. If you get a chance to catch a Perkins match, do it.

Lastly this week I got some clarification from Mr. Bill Behrens, about the NWA House Shows that were ran at the end of the year. “The three events were to be co-promoted with the [venues],” said NWA Promoter Bill Behrens. To my knowledge these were the first events that were not promoted in conjunction with the NWA Pro Wrestling promotion. The first Ohio show was headlined by Trevor Murdock vs. Pepper Parks. Murdock had already worked some dates with NWA Pro/NWA Southwest as a challenger to Brent Albright’s Worlds Championship. Parks continues to work for the NWA Empire promotion with working some dates with the NWA Showcase television show and is a former National Heavyweight Champion. The second big event in Ohio was headlined by Al Snow vs. Pepper Parks. The third event which was to take place in Michigan was canceled because of low ticket sales. That event was to see Mike Quackenbush defend his Junior Heavyweight title against Shannon Moore and the Skull Krushers were to defend their belts against the Phoenix Twins. Unfortunately these shows were not taped. However Behrens assured me that these won’t be the last efforts of running these house shows in larger venues.

NWA Week in Review for Feb. 7th

Welcome back to the week in review for February 7th., 2009. The big rumor of the week is that AAA’s Sean “Xpac” Waltman has a return date scheduled for the NWA Showcase. Waltman was a regular attraction for the NWA before joining Mexico’s AAA. Waltman’s rivalry with “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce even earned him the NWA Heritage Championship. Although his run with the title was short-term, Waltman and Pearce had a series of good matches. Since joing AAA, Waltman has formed a stable with 2 other NWA Pro Wrestlers, Alex Koslov and Rocky Romero and are known as D-Mex. Waltman is to join King V and the World Tag Team Championship showdown between the Young Bucks and the Skull Krushers, to be a part of the big NWA Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

NWA Mexico held its first show of February on the 4th. The show was headlined by the rivalry between Blue Demon Jr. and El Dandy, as Worlds Heavyweight Champion Demon teamed up with Hurricane Ramirez to battle Dandy and Scorpio Jr. We’ll post the results when they become available. But what is probably even more exciting is that on Friday the 13th, NWA Mexico will partner with Promociones Wagner, El Todo X El Todo, and Los Perros del Mal in bringing a unique experience for Mexican Wrestling fans. A lucha libre dream match between El Hijo de Santo and NWA Worlds Champion Blue Demon Jr. battling against Hijo del Perro Aguayo and Dr. Wagner Jr.

The newest NWA member in Wisconsin, Brew City Wrestling announced earlier this week that they have come to an agreement with Time Warner Cable. The show will be a half hour and will be played twice a week in West Allis and in Waukesha. The first taping will be filmed on February 20th. BCW joined the NWA Midwest family on January 16th and has become the 3rd promotion in Wisconsin to carry the NWA Banner.

Speaking of new members of the NWA Family, On February 2nd, the commissioner of NWA Southwest, announced its territory will be growing. Total Championship Wrestling joins; World Of Wrestling(Houston), Gulf Coast Wrestling Alliance (Corpus Christi), Professional Wrestling Federation (Amarillo), Paradise Professional Wrestling (South Padre Island), and NWA Oklahoma in making up one of the largest territories in the NWA. TCW plans on running several shows a month in Austin bringing the NWA brand to the capital for the first time in 23 years.

Things are heating up for NWA in Maine. Rick Fuller is helping NWA On-Fire to bring “Chaos and Destruction” all over Main. Fuller a former WCW and NJPW star will be debuting for the shows in on the TV Taping Schedule. Also scheduled is former TNA star Apollo. The Main Event for the February 6th show in Fairfield will feature Mixed Tag-Team match of Naughty Adrianna and Cousin Larry vs. Miss Alisha and Sonny Roselli. On February 7th in Mexico, The Samoan Warriors will defend their NWA TV Tag Titles against The Logan Brothers, Latin Hit Squad and the Playas Club in a 4 Team Tag Championship Challenge. And Lastly the big main event for the Springvale show on February 8th will feature Apollo and Big Rick Fuller taking on NWA Television Champion Danny Inferno and the 7’1″ Giant Pharaoh.

Unfortunately the NWA Showcase experienced technical difficulties with their broadcasting partner Colours TV this week. Colours aired a previous episode of the NWA Showcase from last year. David Marquez has already confirmed that the Showcase will air on NWAWrestling.com.

NWA Week In Review Jan. 24th

Here is our first installment of the Week in Review.

2009 started off quickly for the NWA. And not even a month into the new year do we have a new National Champion, Phillip Shatter. Shatter defeated former champion Crusher Hansen and Chris LeRusso in a Triple Threat Match. Shatter was originally scheduled to have a title shot against Hansen in Niles, OH for the Santa Slam. The match was postponed due to traveling issues for the former Anarchy Heavyweight Champion. Shatter after winning the championship has already signed on for a defense for the new NWA Charlotte taking on Mikal Judas.

Speaking of NWA Charlotte Saturday the 24th will be their debut event entitled “Homecoming” The inaugural show will feature talents from NWA Anarchy, NWA Pro, and Mid-Atlantic Legends. This show, described as a throwback to Mid-Atlantic tradition. JD Costello (former manager to NWA tag team MOD, had said “We will begin bi-weekly shows in Charlotte under the NWA Charlotte brand in early 2009.” Costello already has scheduled a Main Event match-up between “Shooter” Brent Albright and “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce in a match to determine a #1 Contender to Blue Demon Jr. In addition to the National Heavyweight Championship bout and Albright-Pearce showdown, a “Legends Championship Match” between Ivan Koloff and The Barbarian has been scheduled. NWA Charlotte plans to broadcasts its bi-weekly shows.

NWA Wrestling Showcase makes it’s return to Colours TV. The shows were recorded in the lush Columbia Square Studios in Hollywood, California. The debut was to be set for Friday the 23rd however due to some technical issues, the broadcast will be pushed back to next Friday, the 30th of January. If you have Dish Network, you can watch the premiere next Friday at 6:00pm EST. on Channel 9407 on Dish or streaming from the Colours TV.org. It is expected that the episodes will air on demand on NWAWrestling.com.

NWA Mexico and their quest to be more accessible to their crowds was recently reported by The Cubsfan. It was also mentioned that Blue Demon Jr. could be appearing for New Japan Pro Wrestling, for an up-coming Lucha Extravaganza in Mexico and El Dandy will be getting a US visa to challenge his nemesis, Demon Jr. on American Soil.

Stretching in far East with WWA Korea, NWA Championship Wrestling from Florida affiliate, has introduced a new website. The website is loaded with content from theme music, pictures, and video. In the video section there are clips shown of the press conference between “Super Dragon” Lee Wang Pyo and MMA Fighter and former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Bob Sapp. In the clip Sapp shoves Super Dragon to the floor. And Dragon retaliates by slapping Sapp in the face. The two agreed to a MMA style fight for the WWA Heavyweight Title. Pyo, student to Legendary Korean Wrestler Kim II defeated Sapp with an armbar submission.

NWA France had a their annual event entitled Revolution 5. The venue was packed with 2,500 fans in attendance. And what they saw was Bulla Punk defend her ICWA Women’s Championship against Ohio Valley Wrestling’s Serena Deeb, Greg Furry became the 1st ever Time Scale Champion, Smoke’N’Roll Express retained tag titles and Joe E. Legend retained his tag title. Also ICWA will be introducing 2 new championships, NWA French National Championship and the NWA European Championship.

Two points of interest from the land down under. Monday Night Wrestling has begun to re-air on LocoTV. Monday Night Wrestling’s 1st Season Originally aired on Perth’s Access 31, a public access. Since Access 31 is out of business and the new home is LocoTV, a broadcasting site based from Australia. The Great Aussie Bash will feature Shane Haste and Team Blitz, The European Union, Bobby Marshall, Richter, and EPW Heavyweight Champion, Davis Storm. The fate of former EPW Superstar Jamie Jurah will also be decided.

IWA Puerto Rico’s affiliation with the NWA is no longer in existence. IWA PR was home to the crowning of a New NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship after the TNANWA split. This was briefly discussed on the Alliance Message Board with NWA Pro front man, David Marquez. There was a great topic on the current members of the NWA. Wait… you’re not a member yet? What are you waiting for? Sign up here!

Jerry “The King” Lawler will return to the Tennessee to wrestle for NWA Main Event on Saturday, January 24th. The veteran of 35 years in the ring will take on “Crippler” Jeff Daniels. This marks the second time in recent months that Jerry Lawler has worked on his home turf and is an expected sell out event.

Lastly, NWA Southwest has added a new member into its territory. Paradise Pro Wrestling (South Padre Island), joins the NWA Southwest family which is made up of; NWA Oklahoma, PWF (Amarillo, Texas), WOW (Houston, TX), GCWA – (Corpus Christi, TX). The promotion is fronted by Carmine DeSpirito, who has had many experiences in the NWA promoting and booking in Midwest and with NWA Pro. DeSpirito plans to start running shows in conjunction with Spring Break. with initial shows centering around Spring Break and will take place at the South Padre Island Convention Center beginning Sunday, February 15th at 5pm. And will continue with shows scheduled for March 15th, 22nd and 29th.

And that’s your NWA Week In Review for Janurary 24th.

NWA Mexico News

2009 for NWA Mexico starts with a series of shows that will make the NWA Lucha Libre more accessible by working smaller venues and charging less for tickets. This should be a successful move for the Luchadores with the global economic recession.
In other news, NWA Worlds Champion, Blue Demon Jr. is scheduled to tour in Japan with fellow NWA member, New Japan Pro Wrestling. His precenses in Japan will be a part of the celebration of the rich history that New Japan Wrestling has held with Mexican Wrestling.
Lastly the hate El Dandy has for Blue Demon Jr. just might spill over into the United States. It seems that a NWA wrestling promtion in the United States has requested the paperwork to file for a visa for Dandy. And anybody who doesn’t think that El Dandy is a worthy challenger to the NWA Worlds Heavyweight title, remember the infamous words of Bret Hart… “Who are you to doubt El Dandy?”

Controversy in Mexico regarding NWA titles.

It has been confirmed by the NWA offices in Mexico that it will not sanction this Sunday’s NWA Welterweight title match between Sombra and Ephesto. As the Cubsfan points out the NWA stance on the CMLL controlled NWA titles hasn’t changed since 1991.
The controversy then starts. Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, formerly known as Empresa Mexicana de la Lucha Libre was a member of the NWA until the early 80s. Durning that tenure NWA’s World Light Heavyweight, World Middleweight, and World Welterweight were all defended exclusively in Mexico. And since CMLL’s depature of the NWA, the titles have remained exclusive to CMLL.
Offices in Mexico opened for the NWA when Blue Demon Jr. and David Marquez set up shop back in April. Since then there has been a crowning of new NWA Mexico Lightweight champion in Skayde and 2 World Title defesnse.
