Wrestling for a Cause & NWA Florida presents: Basebrawl 2010

A FUNDRAISER FOR NORTH TAMPA YOUTH BASEBALL
-Opening Contest-
Kazuchika Okada -vs- Tommy Taylor
This opening contest should be amazing as New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Kazuchika Okada takes on England’s Tommy Taylor in what should be a fantastic technical wrestling match from two incredible international superstars. Taylor is the #1 contender to the NWA FLORIDA Heavyweight Title and Okada wants to make an impact at his debut.
-Turf War-
Moonshine McCoy -vs- Francisco Ciatso w/Double Deuce Social Club
Ciatso and Double Deuce consider Tampa Florida their old stomping grounds, mainly because they have a history of destroying competition and stomping on the dreams of their opponents. Moonshine is also from Tampa and has big plans to mark his territory. Does Moonshine have what it takes to defeat Francisco when the deck is so stacked against him? Only time will tell.
-Old School Rivalry-
Buck Quartermaine -vs- Mike Sullivan
You can’t say Tampa wrestling without mentioning Buck Q and Mike Sullivan. These two technician’s are greatly responsible for putting modern day Tampa wrestling on the map. Anytime either one of these gentleman step foot in the squared circle you are almost guaranteed to see a mat classic…put them against one another and it makes for a can’t miss match. This one could undoubtedly steal the show, and with this great line up on March 6th, that is saying a lot!
-Battle For Tag Team Supremacy-
The Heartbreak Express -vs- The Heavenly Bodies
The Tag Team scene has really heated up in NWA Florida as the NWA Florida Tag Team Champions – Dark City Fight Club have become breakout stars in the world of Professional Wrestling. Hot on their trail and gunning for their titles are former AWA World Heavyweight Champions – The Heartbreak Express and former NWA World Heavyweight Champions – The Heavenly Bodies. All teams are extremely competitive, competent and very focused on the NWA Florida Tag Team Titles. The Bodies and HBX are looking to prove that they are “THE” tag team in Florida and there is no better way to prove that then becoming the NWA Florida Tag Team Champions. This match up is something our fans have been waiting to see for a long time and the wait is now finally over.
-Grudge Match-
Bobby Buthol -vs- Micheal Patrick
On August 1, 2009…Bobby Buthol brokered a deal with our Florida office so that he and the tag team of Micheal Patrick and Moonshine McCoy could compete at our Temple Terrace Event. What he didn’t realize is they would all be competing against the MAMMOTH Shane Twins in a handicap tag team match. Even though it was three -vs- two, the odds were definitely stacked against Buthol, Partick and McCoy. Buthol brokered another deal for a match on the September show. As he came out with his team of Patrick and McCoy he dressed them down in front of the huge capacity crowd followed by double crossing them. Buthol tried to get a new tag team to destroy Patrick and McCoy only to come up short once again. Now on March 6th there are only two questions to answer, will three times be the charm or will it be the final strike?
-NWA FLORIDA JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH-
Christopher Gray -vs- Craig Classic (C)
Craig Classic has a new attitude since returning from Japan and will do whatever it takes to keep his title. Christopher Gray has recently returned to NWA Pro Wrestling FUSION on 1/30/10 after an 8 month absence and wants to climb back up the ladder. Gray is not the number one contender to the NWA Florida Jr. title but he got the spot when the number one contender, TJ Perkins, was destroyed by Classic at “Pandemonium At The PAL” in Ft. Pierce. TJ could not make this show due to injury. Christopher Gray already holds a victory over Craig Classic, one can only wonder if he can do it again and capitalize on this amazing opportunity?
—–MAIN EVENT—–
-NWA NORTH AMERICAN HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH-
Big Vito LoGrasso -vs- The SHEIK (C) managed by Joey Eastman
The Sheik has been destroying competitors all over the country and recently picked up the NWA NA Title after defeating “EL Gran” Apolo in Ft. Pierce, FL on 1/30/10. Recently the Sheik defeated the first Unified Universal Champion in Puerto Rican History – “El Rebele” Noriega in Chicago, IL. Does the Sheik have what it takes to retain his NWA NA title against a world class athlete such as Big Vito LoGrasso? Vito has wrestled all over the world competing for ECW, WCW and the WWE. This match may be the biggest test yet for the Sheik.
-Lights Out Match-
Mike Easom -vs- Steve Madison
Mike Easom and Steve Madison have a tremendous hatred for one another and have battled many times before and nothing has ever been settled. In fact the hatred has only multiplied and their matches have become much more dangerous. We feel that this match will be no different and therefore we must protect ourselves legally. The NWA understands the hatred between these two men and although this match may very well take place the NWA WILL NOT sanction this match.

Disclaimer:
The National Wrestling Alliance does not sanction cage matches, chain matches, bull rope matches, strap matches, “lights out” matches, taped fist matches, Texas or other designated “death” matches, or any other events in which the rules and regulations designated herein are not fully enforced. Wrestlers participating in non-sanctioned events do so without recourse to the NWA in the event of injury.

The NWA on PPV?

Brian Webster, part of the NWA On Fire broadcasting team and the author of Webster’s Weekly recently informed fans of NWA On Fire that a deal has been put into place with In-Demand Pay Per View. Details haven’t been released yet, but the shows are set to start in 2010.

I speculate that the show will continue to feature the stars of NWA On Fire, like NWA North American Champion: “El Gran” Apolo, NWA On Fire Champion: Billy Robinson, The Giant Pharaoh, The Logan Brothers, the NWA On Fire Tag Team Champions: Latin Hit Squad and more.

More when it becomes available.

El Gran Apollo is dual champion no more.

December 27th, 2008 marked the date where “El Gran” Apollo made his presence felt in the NWA. Apollo shocked the state of Maine by defeating Danny “Terry” Inferno. Apollo who’s previous NWA appearances were limited to TNA captured the NWA On Fire Championship. Apollo would later debut for NWA Pro Wrestling, by appearing on the NWA Showcase. It would be the NWA Pro Wrestling event Striking Gold in conjunction with NWA Southwest, where Apollo would defeat the son of the Million Dollar Man, Mike DiBiase for the North American Championship. Apollo would defend his On Fire Heavyweight Championship throughout Maine and New Jersey. Apollo would also defend his North American championship in New Jeresy and in Arizona.

A huge announcement was made on the NWA On Fire website that Lance Cade had issued a challenge to 6’4″ Lion. As hyped on this blog, Cade said he would hunt down the North American Champion and take his title. However apparently there was a death in the Cade family and Cade didn’t make the event.

Ever the opportunist, “the Golden Boy” Billy Robinson stepped up to take on Apollo. Robinson determined to win the NWA On Fire championship was able to steal a victory with his foot on the ropes. An eranged Apollo thrashed the referee after the bout.

One must consider with Apollo’s schedule with NWA On Fire and the recent defenses in New Jersey and Arizona have started to wear on the champion. One could also assume that Apollo still has a bulleyes on his chest from Lance Cade. Cade still wants that belt. Those two will meet up soon. And Apollo could go from being a Dual Champ, to no champ.

A New Challenge to the North American Crown

It is on good authority that a new challenger has made his wishes known to the front office of NWA On Fire. Brian Webster reports on his weekly column Webster’s Weekly

“Some very exciting things are happening on a daily basis. I have received word that Lance Cade is making his way to NWA On Fire. I understand that Mr. Cade is setting his sights on becoming the NWA North American Champion and will travel anywhere for a shot at Apollo.”

Apollo is no slouch, although his only title defense comes from the debut NWA NJ show on June 27th. He challenged Mike DiBiase for the North American Heavyweight Championship back in April at the NWA Showcase Television Tapings. The NWA On-Fire Heavyweight Champion defeated DiBiase for the title in Tyler Texas at the Striking Gold Event. Lance Cade however missed the events in Tyler Texas because his prior bookings in Japan with Hustle. Cade and his partner Murdock was pursuing the World Tag Team Champions Skull Krushers. But with Murdock working a regular schedule in Total Non-Stop Action, it appears that Cade will be going solo and he will be pursuing Apollo. One thing is for sure, these two giants will go all out for the North American Crown.

Great read on former NWA North American Champion: Mike DiBiase

The eldest son of the Million Dollar Man, Mike DiBiase has battled injuries and obstacles to get where he is today. DiBiase is the subject of a great article on the Canadian Website, CANOE — SLAM! Sports – Wrestling. The article mentions Mike’s early career history and what his father wishes to do in his young career. You can read the entire article by clicking here, definitely worth the read.

A New NWA North American Heavyweight Champion

The son of the Million Dollar man had held the North American Championship for well over a year. Mike DiBiase had defeated Damien Wayne to capture the championship in North Carolina. And with defenses in California, Texas, Georgia, and Colorado, it was surprising to hear that Mike DiBiase was defeated by El Gran Apolo this weekend in Tyler Texas. I’m not sure where that puts DiBiase as in his pursuit of the Worlds Heavyweight Championship, but certainly that means Aolo’s stock is rising. A famous heavyweight champion in his home Puerto Rico, Apolo has held the NWA World Tag Team titles with D’Lo Brow. Apolo also is currently the reigning NWA On Fire Heavyweight Champion, beating former champ, Danny Inferno.

The NWA presents Striking Gold!

A night that has been brewing for several months will come to a head May 1st. 3 huge title matches are scheduled.

Spoiler 2000 defeated Seth Korbin at the 11th Anniversary of NWA Southwest to win the Texas Heavyweight Championship for the vacant championship. Spoiler 2000 is the first ever dual-champion holding both the Texas Heavyweight Championship and the Oklahoma Heavyweight Championship. His opponent is no stranger to the Texas Heavyweight Title. Kevin Northcutt has held the Texas Crown a record 8 times, which hasn’t been done in the NWA Southwest, and is a former National Heavyweight Champion and NWA World Tag Team Champion. Spoiler will be attempting to cement his fame by beating one of the Southwest most decorated wrestlers and Northcutt will be attempting to garner the attention of the brass of the NWA in hopes of claiming more NWA glory.

“I’ve defeated everyone you’ve put in front of me…” were the words that echoed through out the Colombia Square Studios before El Gran Apolo met face to face with the son of the legendary Million Dollar Man. Apolo, no stranger to gold being a former NWA Worlds Tag Team Champion and currently the Heavyweight Champoion of NWA On Fire stared the North America Champion in his eyes and accepted the challenge. “Iron” Mike DiBiase picking and choosing his battles decided that he would lock horns with Apolo, just not that night. But on May 1st, these two will lock horns. DiBiase believes his path to Worlds Championship goes through Apolo. Apolo wishes to fulfill his legacy to become the North American Champion.

After signing a deal with NWA Pro Wrestling Revolution, former WWE and ECW star Super Crazy has been given the opportunity to face fellow countryman Blue Demon Jr. While in Mexico many of luchador have tried to gain International prominance by defeating the man who hold the Legendary 10lbs. of Gold. Crazy is no stranger to International Fame having wrestled in the WWE, in Japan and Mexico. Demon too has traveled the world as champion even as recently wrestled for Ring of Honor. Obviously this Lucha Libre dream match will be anything but a styles clash, and the folks of Tyler Texas are in for a treat. Demon is also schedule to be in Los Angeles, California representing the NWA for Lucha Va Voom on Cinco De Mayo. And Super Crazy is schedule to be in Northern California at the end of the month for Pro Wrestling Revolution. Only time will tell whom the champion will be.

Saturday’s event takes place inside the Oil Palace in Tyler, Tex. at 8:00 p.m. NWA Showcase TV currently airs in the local Tyler market on the CBS affiliate at 11:30 p.m. on Thursday nights, Nationally on Dish TV Channel 9407 Colours TV, or in deman on NWAWrestling.com.
