NWA Week in Review for Feb. 27th 2009

The month of February comes to an end and the National Wrestling Alliance Marches on.

The month of February was a very successful one our Worlds Heavyweight Champion, Blue Demon Jr. The Demon defended his title successfully in a match against El Dandy in Mexico. Retained his title by disqualification against Oliver John in Pro Wrestling Revolution’s latest event in California, and continued his feud with the Border Patrol on the NWA Showcase in a match against Derrick Sanders. Blue Demon Jr. has been on a role and it has just been announced that Blue Demon Jr. has been invited to the Ring of Honor super-show in Houston during Wrestlemania Weekend.
In recent weeks NWA Southwest and NWA Midwest were adding new associates left and right. THe NWA Midwest strived to further its influence by partnering with Pro Wrestling Fusion. THe gist of the the partnership is talent exchange and the agreement to start co-promoting events across the US, starting in Florida. The release mentions “Former Pro Wrestling Fusion Heavyweight Champion – The Sheik will be debuting in South Dakota and all over the Midwest as soon as March 1 and current Fusion Heavyweight Champion – Steve Madison will be accompanying The Sheik to the NWA Showcase television taping from Hollywood in California on March 7 & 8. The Sheik will also be appearing in NWA Midwest on April 24th in Waukesha, WI, and on April 25th in Madison, WI for NWA Midwest promoter Frank DeFalco of NWA Brew City.” This isn’t the first time that Ed Chuman and the NWA Midwest attempted to get a partnership with a Floridian Wrestling Promotion. April of last year, IWZ was suppose to “co-promote events” with the NWA. I don’t know what became of IWZ, their website is still intact, but it doesn’t look very updated. I think this union between PWF and the NWA will be beneficial to all parties involved.
The more things change, the more they stay the same. The World Famous ECW Arena, now going by the name The ARENA, was the host to the travesty of 1994. When Shane Douglas won the Worlds Championship, read its eulogy and proceeded to toss the title in the center of the ring. 15 years to the date, Shane Douglas is scheduled to debut for NWA On-Fire and the NWA will be returning to ECW arena.
NWA Charlotte will be running is third show. This show is to feature the National Heavyweight Champion Phil Shatter defending his title against former AWA World Champion Larry Zbysko.
And speaking about star power, Chris Masters makes his return to the NWA. Masters was instrumental in helping Brandon Gatson regain his 3rd EWF Heavyweight Championship. Gatson defeated Black Metal with a super-kick.
We’d also like to congratulate long time SoCal Wrestler Red Tornado James Morgan who bested the likes of Joey Ryan, Ryan Taylor, Aaron Aguilera, and Scott Lost to become the 1st ever M1Wrestling Champion.

National Heavyweight Champion

“The Universal Soldier” Phil Shatter def. Chris LeRusso and NWA National Heavyweight Champion Crusher Hansen to win the title!

The mere appearance of the former NWA Anarchy Champion Phil Shatter gave the crowd a clue what they were in for. A solid 6’3″, 250 lbs., Shatter has been described as a man with a “heart of napalm”. Shatter got the upper hand on both competitors until Hansen dumped him to the floor, leaving him as fodder for Camp Crusher Security to assault at will. In the ring, LeRusso attempted to topple Hansen like he has in the past, but he was attacked from behind by Mantis. Referee Piston Wiley counted LeRusso out of the match, eliminating him. It was down to Hansen and Shatter. Hansen was completely unprepared for his newest challenger, but relied on all the oldest tricks in the book to try and pick up the victory. A member of Camp Crusher Security infiltrated the ring after the referee was knocked out, and laid out Shatter. But Hansen’s nemesis Brandon K hit the ring as Hansen was attempting to swing the National Title at Shatter. K grabbed the title and spun Hansen around into the awaiting grasp of Shatter. Shatter hit Hansen with a lifting DDT variation to pick up the win and become the brand new NWA National Heavyweight Champion!

Brandon K shocks the Nation. OR NOT???

On December 13, 2008 at McKeesport, PA for NWA EAST’s PWX Christmas Chaos Show, a NEW NWA National Champion was crowned. In a 6-Way Christmas Chaos match that was filled with a champion as every participant. All of the belts were up for grabs. 1/2 of the NWA North American Tag Champs; Brandon K, 1/2 of the NWA East Tag Champ; Ashton Amhurst, NWA East Brass Knuckles Champ; Chris Taylor, NWA East Three Rivers Champ James Ross, NWA East Heavyweight Champ Scottie Gash, and lastly the NWA National Champion Crusher Hansen. Brandon K finally got his hands on Hansen and defeated his rival for the National Title.

Hansen, a mainstay in NWA East’s PWX has proudly held the title since April 18th 2008by besting Pepper Parks. Hansen held some key victories over the likes of Tracey Smothers and most recently former National Champion Chance Prophet.

Brandon K’s dual championship status will be in jeopoardy for the big NWA show in Ohio on Dec. 20th. Originally slated to be a Crusher Hansen defense of his National Championship against former NWA Anarchy Heavyweight Champion Phillip Shatter. It is being rumored that Brandon K will fufill Hansen’s title defense against the “Universal Soilder.”

:::BREAKING NEWS:::

NWA Excutive Director Bob Trobich has removed the title and returned the championship to Crusher Hansen. Brandon K in the course of the Chaos had used the title against Hansen. In the past the referee’s decision was final, noted as recently as Blue Demon Jr. defeating Adam Pearce for the World Title, where under video review Pearce can cleary be seen being under the bottom rope thus should have stopped the pinfal. Trobich cleary wants to to avoid title changes admist controversy, however I do not believe this will be the end of this discusion. I feel that this might be all for nothing, when the National Champion battles Phillip Shatter this weekend.

NWA EAST

Crusher Hansen has held on to the National Heavyweight Championship since April 18th when he was able to defeat Pepper Parks. Since then, Hansen has been able to hang on to his title through defenses against Axl Rotten, “Sterling” James Keenan and a slew of the NWA East’s finest. July 5th was to mark Hansen’s next defense against a former World Champion Steve Corino. Corino was looking to add yet another title into his repitore of championships. However, Corino was recently injured leaving Hansen without an opponent.

That is until this morning on. The powers that be in NWA East, were able to sign Tracy Smothers to face Hansen. Also scheduled for this event are Chris LeRusso battles Scottie Gash in an “I Quit” Match. A Three Rivers Title Match between Dash Bennet and Sean Dahmer. The North American Titles will be defended when the Wrong Crowd meets the Iron Justice. Chris Taylor challenges Sterling James Kennan for his NWA East Heavyweight Title. And a gauntlet match for the NWA East Brass Knuckles Title Match.

And then their was one… a NEW Australian National Champion

Eight wrestlers battled for top supremacy in a one night tournament. Mikey Nicholls defeated Jimmy Payne, Rocky Romero, and Bobby Marshall to becoming the first National Heavyweight Champion of Australia. A Championship that is on par with NWA UK’s National Champion Johnny Moss, NWA Canada’s National Champion Cole Bishop and of course the United States National Champion, Pepper Parks. This victory makes Nicholls a perennial opponent for NWA World Champion, Scrap Iron Adam Pearce.
The second night of the NWA Tour, Nicholls accepted the challenge of American Dragon, Bryan Danielson. Danielson is a World Champion contender in his own right was defeated by Everybody’s favorite Superhero, Mikey Nicholls. The defeat of Bryan Danielson, lends instant credibility to the newly created title.
