NWA Main Event: Announces new Executive Producer

NASHVILLE, TN: NWA Main Event promoter, Mike Porter announced today that Atlanta based Bill Behrens would take on the role of Executive Producer of the NWA Main Event Television program beginning in early January 2010.

The NWA Main Event television program currently airs exclusively on the internet at http://www.nwame.com but Mike Porter believes that “with the addition of Bill Behrens and improvements we plan our television product should soon thereafter begin airing on various television stations in Tennessee & Kentucky”, the promotion base for NWA Main Event.

Bill Behrens co-produced 100 consecutive episodes of the Nashville based NWA Music City Wrestling and NWA Worldwide Wrestling with promoter Bert Prentice beginning in 1997. That was followed by 329 consecutive episodes of NWA Wildside, the promotion that featured AJ Styles, Justice (Abyss), Hotstuff Hernandez, Ron Killings, Jimmy Rave and numerous other superstars and served as a WCW development territory. After NWA Wildside, Behrens began producing the television program for NWA Anarchy which has aired 203 episode to date in syndication and on the internet at http://www.nwaanarchy.net .

“I am excited to return to Nashville, and look forward to creating a strong Nashville based television program that I believe will become the area’s destination for future wrestling superstars, and appointment viewing weekly for wrestling fans,” said Behrens. He noted that “the promotion has a core base of strong wrestling talent in White Tiger, Matt Boyce, Will Owens, Mike Posey, Corey Hollis, and others ready to step up and get noticed, a talented editor, and strong support team.”

The NWA Main Event television program is produced most Thursdays at 413 Veritas St in Nashville, TN. Next TV taping is December 10.

I occasionally tune into NWA Main Event via the web. Since the departure of Jason James, I feel the quality of the show has been devalued. They had some compelling characters like White Tiger and Shawn Shultz, but even the returning faces of Will Owens, Gary Valiant, or even Mike Rapada hadn’t improved the show. So how will Bill Behrens improve the produce? Do you think this elevates Main Event television? Are you going to start watching? Please Leave a Comment and tell me what you think.

NWA Main Event Internet Show going on hiatus?

Credit Larry Goodman and Georgia Wrestling History:

In light of the departure Jason James, NWA Main Event’s weekly internet wrestling program will be on hiatus for several weeks, while promoter Mike Porter retools his TV production and booking. The last episode produced was the September 19 edition.

In a city that not long ago had the unique distinction of having three locally produced independent wrestling television shows, Nashville is down to one, Showtime All-Star Wrestling, at least for the time being.

Until recently, USWO/ATL had been running weekly television tapings at the Stadium Inn, but conflicts between Television Producer Timmy Thompson and ATL’s Bill DeShields brought that project to a halt after only six episodes.

Porter said he hopes to have the NWA Main Event internet back up and running by no later October 24. Television tapings will proceed as scheduled at 413 Veritas Street on October 1 and October 10.

Mike Porter, via the Mid-South Wrestling Message Board noted that “The show will be back on. In fact the taping on the 15 will be live to tape and will be so every Thursday. This way less editing time will be involved in producing the show. [I] have already interviewed two editors.” For those who are unaware, Jason James was instrumental in producing the weekly television show for NWA Main Event as well as the play by play for the show. Jason James has taken a position with Total Non-Stop Action.

NWA Main Event’s Shawn Shultz: Going Crazy!!!

Former NWA Mid American Champion, Shawn Shultz is running a muck in NWA Main Event. Schultz has been interrupting matches, attacking referees, security, NWA Announcer Jason James, NWA Main Event owner Mike Porter, and Main Event Commissioner George Gulas. And for why? Schultz is demanding a rematch at Steve O. The man who beat Shultz for the title. What happens next?

The director of the NWA, Bill Behrens will be at Main Event TV to make an announcement in regards to Shawn Shultz and his future on Main Event TV.

NWA Main Event presents Lawler and Dundee 09

Lawler, Dundee headline pro wrestling here Saturday

Jerry “The King” Lawler and “Superstar” Bill Dundee headline professional wrestling’s return to the Butler Gym Saturday night.

Five other matches are also on the card for the event, presented by NWA Main Event Wrestling of Nashville, Tenn., and sponsored by the Princeton Kiwanis Club.

Lawler is a legend in pro wrestling circles and can be seen every Monday night on WWE’s top rated cable show, Monday Night RAW.

Lawler is perhaps best known for his feud with the late comedian Andy Kaufman and an incident on Late Night with David Lettermen. Lawler slapped Kaufman out of his chair. Kaufman retaliated by trying to throw coffee on Lawler.

The incident drew main-stream news coverage.

“The King” recently celebrated 35 years in the wrestling business. He was inducted into the WWE’s Hall of Fame in 2007.

Lawler, who turned pro in 1970, has recorded victories over such pro wrestling luminaries as Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Dory Funk Jr., Terry Funk, Jack Brisco and Harley Race.

Many area wrestling fans remember his feuds with Jackie Fargo, Tojo Yamamoto and Austin Idol, and Dundee, a former tag-team partner of Lawler’s.

Dundee arrived in the United States in 1974 and made a name for himself in the pro wrestling hotbed of Memphis.

Promoters are billing Saturday’s Lawler-Dundee showdown here as an “historical ending of one of the most famous feuds in wrestling history.

“This will be a wrestling match to finally end the feud between these two great mat stars! You don’t want to miss the rare chance to see two true legends inside the squared circle one more time.”

Ringside tickets are $10 with general admission $8.

Tickets will be on sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Walmart. Tickets will also be available at the door Saturday night.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Wrestling begins at 8 p.m.
