NWA Week in Review for Mar. 28th

In the infamous words of Poppa Cal, better late than never, the Alliance proudly brings to you this Week In Review for March 28th, 2009.

All thought a celestial down pour prevented the Alternative Wrestling Show from holding their 7th Anniversary Spectacular, the AWS still moves on. The big news from AWS is a crowning of a new Women’s Championship. Already scheduled to participate in the tournament are “The New York Knockout” Nikki, Morgan, Carla Jade, Marissa Lopez, Erica D’ Erico, Ellen Degenerate, Candice LaRae, Kittana Vera, and Aiden Riley, with three more names to be announced. Morgan and Erico work regularly for NWA Arizona’s IZW. The rest are pretty regular of Southern California. But that isn’t the only announcement for AWS as the Alternative Wrestling Show will be holding a show in Burbank, which is an alternative to their Rowland Heights location. (see what I did there.) The Burbank show is to be a part of the Hollywood Show Convention. And lastly the AWS will in fact hold the Anniversary Show at its home at the AWS on Sunday April the 19th.

At Ring Of Honor’s “Take No Prisoneers” on April 4th, our worlds champion Blue Demon Jr. steps into Ring of Honor. Demon battles Nigel McGuinness, in an International Tag Team Match. McGuinness joins Claudio Castagnoli to battle Demon and Brent Albright. This will be the 3rd NWA Worlds Champion to appear in front of a ROH audience.

Speaking of wrestling Royalty the relationship with Jerry Lawler and NWA Main Event is in full bloom. Lawler’s last appearance in NWA Main Event drew crowd of over 1300 in Kentucky.

Ultimate NWA has announced it will start running again and will be crowning new tag team champions.

NWA Pro Wrestling Revolution has stripped Tag Team Champion Rey Misterio for not being able to make events and the announcement will be made soon.

Lastly “In 2009, ECCW Pro-Wrestling will partner with SHARE Family & Community Services for the first Wrestling With Hunger event. Twenty wrestlers will take part in a 72 hour show in Port Coquitlam, BC with the goal of restocking the food bank shelves and set the world’s record for the longest wrestling show ever!” This is a great positive event for wrestling and I hope more NWA members follow suit.

NWA Week in Review for March 7th, 2009

The Showcase returns to Hollywood CA at the Columbia Square Studios. The NWA plans on two big television tapings on March 7th and 8th. Scheduled to appear are; NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion Blue Demon, Jr., NWA Worlds Tag Team Champions “The Skullkrushers”, NWA North American Champions Mike DiBiase, NWA National Heavyweight Champion “Universal Soldier” Phil Shatter, “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce, Oliver John and the Boarder Patrol, Puerto Rico’s Apollo, “Shooter” Brent Albright, Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch, Muscle Gang, Joey Ryan, Canada’s Nelson Creed, The Young Bucks, and “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson. NWA Pro officials also confirmed none other than Tristan Gallo the self-professed “Half-Breed Heart Throb.” This is great news for the ladies! I will be in attendance and I will try to bring you some of the action here.
In recent weeks we’ve talked about some of the biggest names in wrestling history. Ric Flair making an appearance for NWA Mid-Atlantic. Shawn Michaels attending the EWF’s school of Hard Knocks. Even the man who disrespected the legendary 10lbs of gold has been re-connected to the NWA. Add Bill Dundee and the “King” Jerry Lalwer as they bring their feud of nearly 3 decades to NWA Main Event. Lawler has appeared a few times in association with NWA Main Event several times this year and last. When Lawler isn’t making appearance for the NWA he still does commentary for the WWE.
Speaking of WWE, recently released Super Crazy has come to a multiple date agreement with the Management of Pro Wrestling Revolution. Pro Wrestling Revolution brings some of the hottest luchadores to Northen California. Including appearances from Los Misterios (El Hijo De Rey Misterio and Rey Misterio Sr.), Sicodelico Jr., El Hijo de Sicodelico, Rayman, and even Worlds Heayvweight Champion Blue Demon Jr. The Demon defended his title in Pro Wrestling Revolution against Oliver John.
And now Blue Demon Jr. proudly defends his NWA Championship against fellow NWA Champion, Ryan Taylor. A dual title holder, holding his home promotions American Championship and the NWA Heritage Title, Taylor has made a career of being an underdog. Even holding victories over the King of Underdog, TJ Perkins. Blue Demon Jr. will have to keep his guard up. This match is scheduled for this Sunday regardless of his matches for the showcase tapings. This could be a fatal judgment error for the champ.
If Blue Demon can leave this weekend title intact, he will have a future defense in Charlotte, North Carolina. As Bob Trobich and JD Costello announced that a Worlds Title match will be taking place in May or June. The schedule is being worked out and contracts are being finalized. On the live event the show announced that they would be running weekly 30 minute long shows. The first one being made available at http://digitaltuxedo.com/.
Lastly NWA Southwest’s NWA Oklahoma has announced its plans to run on Tribal Lands and Indian Owned Casinos. The staff at OK had mentioned that they have been getting requests from lots of Tribes to promote shows in these venues. The relationship with these venues will likely give NWA OK more dates and already allowed them to help book the NWA Southwest’s 11th Anniversary show. NWA OK has also expressed interest in competing in joint shows with NWA Arizona’s Impact Zone Wrestling to promote joint shows in Oklahoma.

NWA Main Event presents Lawler and Dundee 09

Lawler, Dundee headline pro wrestling here Saturday

Jerry “The King” Lawler and “Superstar” Bill Dundee headline professional wrestling’s return to the Butler Gym Saturday night.

Five other matches are also on the card for the event, presented by NWA Main Event Wrestling of Nashville, Tenn., and sponsored by the Princeton Kiwanis Club.

Lawler is a legend in pro wrestling circles and can be seen every Monday night on WWE’s top rated cable show, Monday Night RAW.

Lawler is perhaps best known for his feud with the late comedian Andy Kaufman and an incident on Late Night with David Lettermen. Lawler slapped Kaufman out of his chair. Kaufman retaliated by trying to throw coffee on Lawler.

The incident drew main-stream news coverage.

“The King” recently celebrated 35 years in the wrestling business. He was inducted into the WWE’s Hall of Fame in 2007.

Lawler, who turned pro in 1970, has recorded victories over such pro wrestling luminaries as Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Dory Funk Jr., Terry Funk, Jack Brisco and Harley Race.

Many area wrestling fans remember his feuds with Jackie Fargo, Tojo Yamamoto and Austin Idol, and Dundee, a former tag-team partner of Lawler’s.

Dundee arrived in the United States in 1974 and made a name for himself in the pro wrestling hotbed of Memphis.

Promoters are billing Saturday’s Lawler-Dundee showdown here as an “historical ending of one of the most famous feuds in wrestling history.

“This will be a wrestling match to finally end the feud between these two great mat stars! You don’t want to miss the rare chance to see two true legends inside the squared circle one more time.”

Ringside tickets are $10 with general admission $8.

Tickets will be on sale from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Walmart. Tickets will also be available at the door Saturday night.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Wrestling begins at 8 p.m.

NWA Week In Review Jan. 24th

Here is our first installment of the Week in Review.

2009 started off quickly for the NWA. And not even a month into the new year do we have a new National Champion, Phillip Shatter. Shatter defeated former champion Crusher Hansen and Chris LeRusso in a Triple Threat Match. Shatter was originally scheduled to have a title shot against Hansen in Niles, OH for the Santa Slam. The match was postponed due to traveling issues for the former Anarchy Heavyweight Champion. Shatter after winning the championship has already signed on for a defense for the new NWA Charlotte taking on Mikal Judas.

Speaking of NWA Charlotte Saturday the 24th will be their debut event entitled “Homecoming” The inaugural show will feature talents from NWA Anarchy, NWA Pro, and Mid-Atlantic Legends. This show, described as a throwback to Mid-Atlantic tradition. JD Costello (former manager to NWA tag team MOD, had said “We will begin bi-weekly shows in Charlotte under the NWA Charlotte brand in early 2009.” Costello already has scheduled a Main Event match-up between “Shooter” Brent Albright and “Scrap Iron” Adam Pearce in a match to determine a #1 Contender to Blue Demon Jr. In addition to the National Heavyweight Championship bout and Albright-Pearce showdown, a “Legends Championship Match” between Ivan Koloff and The Barbarian has been scheduled. NWA Charlotte plans to broadcasts its bi-weekly shows.

Stretching in far East with WWA Korea, NWA Championship Wrestling from Florida affiliate, has introduced a new website. The website is loaded with content from theme music, pictures, and video. In the video section there are clips shown of the press conference between “Super Dragon” Lee Wang Pyo and MMA Fighter and former IWGP Heavyweight Champion Bob Sapp. In the clip Sapp shoves Super Dragon to the floor. And Dragon retaliates by slapping Sapp in the face. The two agreed to a MMA style fight for the WWA Heavyweight Title. Pyo, student to Legendary Korean Wrestler Kim II defeated Sapp with an armbar submission.

IWA Puerto Rico’s affiliation with the NWA is no longer in existence. IWA PR was home to the crowning of a New NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship after the TNANWA split. This was briefly discussed on the Alliance Message Board with NWA Pro front man, David Marquez. There was a great topic on the current members of the NWA. Wait… you’re not a member yet? What are you waiting for? Sign up here!

Jerry “The King” Lawler will return to the Tennessee to wrestle for NWA Main Event on Saturday, January 24th. The veteran of 35 years in the ring will take on “Crippler” Jeff Daniels. Lastly, NWA Southwest has added a new member into its territory. Paradise Pro Wrestling (South Padre Island), joins the NWA Southwest family which is made up of; NWA Oklahoma, PWF (Amarillo, Texas), WOW (Houston, TX), GCWA – (Corpus Christi, TX).
