NWA North American Champion to NWA Pro Wrestling Fusion

Joey Machete is announcing that North American Champion, El Leon Apollo will be heading to the state where the man won the NWA World Tag Team title with Dlo Brow.  Apollo has been invited by Pro Wrestling Fusion for what I can only guess will be a North American Title defense.  Also rumored for January 30th will be none other than the NWA Florida Tag Team Champions the Dark City Fight Club taking on the returning Heartbreak Express.
We’ll keep you posted on all the card updates, but who do you think Apollo will defend his title against?  Will it be former NWA Heritage Champion TJ Perkins, former WWE wrestler 2 Cold Scorpio, or former WCW wrestler Prince Iaukea?  Maybe Steve Madison can finally cash in and take the next step?  Who do you think Apollo’s opponent will be?  Comment bellow!

Regal Recap: a NWA Championship recap.

The National Champion Phil Shatter has been making the rounds recently. Aside from working the Total Non-Stop Action Live Events and the NWA Legends Fanfest, “the Universal Soldier” successfully defended his championship at the Atlanta’s Dragon*Con. Shatter retained his championship by defeating the foursome of Ace Rockwell, Mikal Judas, and Shaun Tempers. Oddly enough there was some controversy as to who actually won the National Title at Dragon*Con. It was originally reported by some sources that Ace Rockwell won the championship, however reports later showed the Universal Soldier was in fact triumphant. However, the champ makes his way back to the scene of the crime, that is he’s going back to NWA East. Shatter, who won his championship by defeating not only Chris LeRusso, but former champion Crusher Hansen in a triple threat match, is slated to appear back in NWA East on Sept. 26th. His opponent has been announced as Ryan Mitchell. Mitchell earned this shot by going through former National Champion, Crusher Hansen. Before winning this match, Mitchell also won the Sean Evans Memorial Tournament.

The NWA North American Champions will also be defended at NWA East’s Sept. 26th show. Brandon K and Scottie Gash now known as Excellence Personified have been dealing with trouble. That trouble is often known as the Franchise Players. These two teams have been battling for months now and are heading for a head on collision on the 26th on the NWA East’s 15th Anniversary Show.

Speaking of the North American Champions, No one has properly challenged the behemoth of NWA On-Fire, El Gran Apollo. Apollo won the North American Championship in Tyler Texas by putting an end to Mike DiBiase’s long title reign. Apollo would later flex his muscle in his home promotion NWA On-Fire and won their heavyweight championship. Apollo would go on to defend his North American Championship once in New Jersey and once in Arizona. And since, nobody has made that championship a priority. On the verge of retiring the championship, Apollo did receive a challenge from none other than former WWE World Tag Team Champion, Lance Cade. Cade issued the challenge, but a family emergency kept Cade from meeting Apollo. Apollo ended up losing his On-Fire Heavyweight Title, to Billy Robinson. But with Cade looming in the background, how long will Apollo be able to hang on to this championship.

The Heavyweight Champion of the World… just came off a double shot weekend, where the Champion prevailed against the Idol of Brownsville, Golden King for NWA Southwest’s Paradise Pro Wrestling show. Also called Lucha Americana International was Demon’s second defense since defeating Oliver John and Super Crazy in Phoenix, AZ. Demon also had a match schedule in Corpus Christi on Sept. 11th for Gulf Coast Wrestling Alliance, but no results have been posted as of this writing. Demon’s scheduled next defense was highly anticipated as it would have marked the first NWA event in Chicago for this millennium. Demon was to take on The Sheik with Joey Eastman of Fusion Pro Wrestling. Those matches will no long be sanctioned by the NWA, and will no longer be title matches.

Unfortunately the inactivity of the NWA World Tag Team Championships, NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Championship, and NWA Women Championship, I’ve got nothing to update. The current champions are the Skull Krushers, Mike Quackenbush, and MsChif, respectively.

The NWA Returns to Chicago

NWA Midwest now has representation in the Windy City, Chicago based ICW has changed its name to NWA Chicago Lucha and will start representing the National Wrestling Alliance. NWA-OK president, Mr. Farat brokered the deal that saw NWA officials and IWC promoters come to an agreement. Mr. Farat will be serving on the board of directors for NWA Chicago Lucha and has promised that we’ll be seeing a lot of NWA-OK stars featured there in the future. NWA Oklahoma has dedicated six talents to be sent to Chicago for the inaugural event to be held in September. NWA Chicago Lucha uses a diverse roster that includes Luchadors and American Style Wrestlers. Their last show featured a match up with North American Champion “El Gran” Apollo and NWA Oklahoman regular Tom Donovan. The other NWA Oklahoma grapplers featured on the show were Al Farat, Thug Nasty, Nicky Sixx, and Billy Tiger.
Previously NWA Oklahoma attempted to work at an agreement with NWA Arizona’s Impact Zone Wrestling. However due to management changes in IZW, no join effort has taken place yet.

El Gran Apollo is dual champion no more.

December 27th, 2008 marked the date where “El Gran” Apollo made his presence felt in the NWA. Apollo shocked the state of Maine by defeating Danny “Terry” Inferno. Apollo who’s previous NWA appearances were limited to TNA captured the NWA On Fire Championship. Apollo would later debut for NWA Pro Wrestling, by appearing on the NWA Showcase. It would be the NWA Pro Wrestling event Striking Gold in conjunction with NWA Southwest, where Apollo would defeat the son of the Million Dollar Man, Mike DiBiase for the North American Championship. Apollo would defend his On Fire Heavyweight Championship throughout Maine and New Jersey. Apollo would also defend his North American championship in New Jeresy and in Arizona.

A huge announcement was made on the NWA On Fire website that Lance Cade had issued a challenge to 6’4″ Lion. As hyped on this blog, Cade said he would hunt down the North American Champion and take his title. However apparently there was a death in the Cade family and Cade didn’t make the event.

Ever the opportunist, “the Golden Boy” Billy Robinson stepped up to take on Apollo. Robinson determined to win the NWA On Fire championship was able to steal a victory with his foot on the ropes. An eranged Apollo thrashed the referee after the bout.

One must consider with Apollo’s schedule with NWA On Fire and the recent defenses in New Jersey and Arizona have started to wear on the champion. One could also assume that Apollo still has a bulleyes on his chest from Lance Cade. Cade still wants that belt. Those two will meet up soon. And Apollo could go from being a Dual Champ, to no champ.

A New Challenge to the North American Crown

It is on good authority that a new challenger has made his wishes known to the front office of NWA On Fire. Brian Webster reports on his weekly column Webster’s Weekly

“Some very exciting things are happening on a daily basis. I have received word that Lance Cade is making his way to NWA On Fire. I understand that Mr. Cade is setting his sights on becoming the NWA North American Champion and will travel anywhere for a shot at Apollo.”

Apollo is no slouch, although his only title defense comes from the debut NWA NJ show on June 27th. He challenged Mike DiBiase for the North American Heavyweight Championship back in April at the NWA Showcase Television Tapings. The NWA On-Fire Heavyweight Champion defeated DiBiase for the title in Tyler Texas at the Striking Gold Event. Lance Cade however missed the events in Tyler Texas because his prior bookings in Japan with Hustle. Cade and his partner Murdock was pursuing the World Tag Team Champions Skull Krushers. But with Murdock working a regular schedule in Total Non-Stop Action, it appears that Cade will be going solo and he will be pursuing Apollo. One thing is for sure, these two giants will go all out for the North American Crown.
